Terms of Service
Last updated: April 22, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using StartLane (“the Service”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Service. If you are using the Service on behalf of an organization (such as a school or team), you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these terms.
2. Description of Service
StartLane is a web-based running training platform that provides:
- Personalized training plan generation based on sports science principles
- Workout tracking and daily wellness check-ins
- Integration with fitness devices and services (Strava, WHOOP, Apple Health)
- Running form video analysis
- Team management tools for coaches (roster, meets, results, recovery monitoring)
- Progress tracking and performance analytics
3. Not Medical Advice
StartLane is not a medical service and does not provide medical advice.
The training plans, zone calculations, recovery recommendations, and form analysis provided by StartLane are based on general endurance training principles and published sports science research. They are not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
- Consult a physician before starting any new training program
- If you experience pain, dizziness, chest discomfort, or other concerning symptoms during exercise, stop immediately and seek medical attention
- Listen to your body over the app — if something feels wrong, it probably is
- The app does not know your injury history, medical conditions, or current health status
4. User Accounts
- You must provide accurate and complete information when creating an account
- You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials
- You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. Users under 18 should have parental or coach supervision
- You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account
- Notify us immediately at hello@startlane.app if you suspect unauthorized access to your account
5. Coach and Team Responsibilities
If you use StartLane as a coach or team administrator:
- You are responsible for obtaining necessary parental consents for athletes under 18, particularly under 13 (per COPPA requirements)
- You must comply with applicable school, district, and state policies regarding student data and privacy (including FERPA where applicable)
- You are responsible for the accuracy of team data, meet results, and athlete information you enter
- Workout overrides and training modifications you make for athletes are your professional responsibility
- You should not share athlete health data (check-ins, HRV, sleep) with unauthorized parties
6. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other users' accounts or data
- Upload malicious files, viruses, or harmful content
- Scrape, crawl, or harvest data from the Service
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure
- Misrepresent your identity or affiliation with a team or organization
- Share login credentials or invite codes with unauthorized individuals
7. Intellectual Property
The Service, including its design, code, training algorithms, and content, is owned by StartLane and protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or reverse-engineer any part of the Service.
You retain ownership of the data you input (workout logs, check-ins, form videos). By using the Service, you grant us a limited license to process and store this data as necessary to provide the Service.
8. Third-Party Integrations
StartLane integrates with third-party services including Strava, WHOOP, Apple Health, and Google. Your use of these integrations is subject to their respective terms of service.
- We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or security of third-party services
- Third-party integrations may be modified, suspended, or discontinued at any time without prior notice
- Data imported from third-party services is provided “as-is” — we do not verify its accuracy
- If a third-party service becomes unavailable, your StartLane account and locally-stored data remain unaffected
- You may disconnect third-party integrations at any time through your account settings
9. Subscriptions and Free Trials
- Free trials are limited to one per user. Creating multiple accounts to obtain additional free trials is a violation of these terms.
- Paid subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled before the renewal date.
- You may cancel your subscription at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you will retain access until then.
- No refunds are provided for partial billing periods, except where required by law.
- Pricing may change with 30 days' notice. Continued use after the change constitutes acceptance.
10. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless StartLane, its officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, or expenses (including reasonable attorney's fees) arising from:
- Your use of the Service or violation of these terms
- Your violation of any third party's rights, including intellectual property or privacy rights
- Any content you submit to the Service
- Your negligent or wrongful conduct
11. Service Availability
We strive to maintain the Service's availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service may be temporarily unavailable for maintenance, updates, or circumstances beyond our control. We are not liable for any loss or damage resulting from Service downtime.
12. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- StartLane is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind
- We are not liable for any injuries, health complications, or physical harm that may result from following training plans generated by the Service
- We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
- Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for the Service in the 12 months preceding the claim
13. Termination
You may delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you violate these terms or engage in conduct that we determine is harmful to the Service or other users.
Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Provisions of these terms that by their nature should survive termination shall survive (including liability limitations, intellectual property rights, and dispute resolution).
14. Changes to Terms
We may modify these Terms of Service at any time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated terms and updating the “Last updated” date. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
15. Dispute Resolution
Before initiating any legal proceeding, you agree to first attempt to resolve any dispute informally by contacting us at hello@startlane.app. We will attempt to resolve the dispute within 30 days.
If the dispute cannot be resolved informally, both parties agree to submit to non-binding mediation before pursuing litigation. The mediation shall be conducted in English.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, United States, without regard to conflict of law provisions. If litigation is necessary, it shall be resolved in the courts of Wyoming.
